Well. You hear all those old stories about the water being so high you could touch the bridge.

We are slowly getting there again. We may not be able to touch the bridge from the water but it is getting higher. Predictions of 60% before the end of the winter. We hope that it gets even higher.

VicRoads Road Closure Update – Regional Victoria

VicRoads advises that the roads listed below remain closed due to flooding, debris and/or trees on the road.

VicRoads is working with emergency services and local councils to ensure roads are safe before re-opening.  Damage to roads and fallen debris and trees mean that while some roads are open, drivers need to remain cautious and reduce their speed accordingly.  Drivers need to take extra care on rural roads at night as visibility can be poor and water can be difficult to see.

More roads may need to be closed as water levels continue to rise in some areas and roads will be re-opened when conditions are safe to do so.  Always check local conditions on the VicRoads website prior to leaving home.

Wet weather weekend on Mt Buller

Saturday, 4th August..

This weekend is looking pretty drab for snow fans. What with very heavy rains overnight on Friday and a bleak looking Saturday, Mt Buller runs will have plenty of space for the novices to fall over. No fear or running over other skiiers.

Mt Buller Ski Hire in Mansfield were not hiring equipment on Saturday due to the poor conditions. A few mad skiiers braved the conditions and can be seen on Bourke Street.  http://mansfieldmotel.com.au/mt-buller-snow-cams/

This can only mean great things for the lakes with levels up from 38 to 45% at Lake Eildon. Bring on the summer water sports.

Mansfield Hotel Fire August 2010

Our feelings are with the owners and staff of the Mansfield Hotel which was burnt on the weekend 27 Aug, 2010. In another sad day for the region after the Maindample Hotel burnt down just two weeks prior, Mansfield has again lost one of it’s icons.  Albeit, temporarily, the hotel has closed due to some serious internal damage by fire, water and smoke.  The hotel will be back bigger and better in the near future.

Mansfield Motel thanks the Mansfield Hotel management Trevor and staff for support and supply of great meals to motel guests.

We have attached all the latest news about the Mansfield Hotel.

The building was evacuated about 5:00am (AEST) on Saturday after a fire started in the kitchen.

The fire caused extensive damage to the ground and first floor of the pub and there was smoke damage to the rest of the building.

CFA operations officer Malcolm Bruce says the fire also threatened neighbouring properties.

“Because of the age of this building there were a few add-ons and other buildings nearby, the crews worked hard to protect the building but there was some smoke damage to other buildings nearby,” he said.

  • Mansfield pub fire

  • THE HISTORIC Mansfield Hotel was engulfed in flames early this morning after a fire broke out in the popular pub’s kitchen.

The building was evacuated and nine fire trucks were deployed to the fire, which broke out just before 5am and took an hour to bring under control.

The main Mansfield roundabout was cordoned off, creating a backup of traffic heading to Mt Buller.

In Mansfield, multiple emergency calls were made as the hotel fire also threatened a nearby real estate agent office.

More than 40 CFA firefighters took an hour to bring the blaze under control and the extent of the damage is not yet known, although the interior is extensively burnt.

Mansfield Shire councillor Dean Belle, who helps operate the neighbouring Mansfield Produce Store, said the loss of the pub would be a big blow to the community.

“We’re all pretty devastated that it’s happened,” he said.

“As a town servicing the ski industry, it will slow things down a lot. We hope it will be back up and running as soon as possible.”

Fire crews are expected to remain at the scene for hours as a salvage operation continues.

The cause of the fire is being investigated and there are not believed to be any injuries.
